The gate at the bottom of Tondorf Rd. labeled “Gilbane” (next to Regents) is sometimes unsecured. I was walking home from Tombs the other night and found myself lost inside it. Can they start locking that up more regularly?
(10/20/14) Yes, the message has been communicated to the project manager and that gate will begin to be locked.
The chute hugging Regents along the west side of Tondorf is not lit. The light poles were installed and do not turn on. What can be done about this very dark walkway at night?
(10/20/14) Greg Simmons, the Associate Vice President for Facilities Operation, Design & Construction, is following up with the contractor on this issue.
I hear that Georgetown only has one contracted exterminator. How will this be enough to deal with the rat population spillover that might result from construction on NET?
(10/20/14) Georgetown has a pest control contract with Terminix, not one person. Terminix can and will bring on additional resources as necessary to address issues caused by construction sites.
While some lights have been installed in the area between Reiss and ICC, these are not enough. What is being done to increase lighting in construction areas?
(10/20/14) The university is working on additional lighting for the path west of Reiss, which should be in place before the end of the week. They are also planning on widening the route from the east entrance of Reiss to Darnall.
Why is the one side of Henle (closer to Healy) closed off? The path around people in Henle are forced to take seems unnecessarily long and complicated.
(10/22/14) The construction company has determined that they need the area around Henle as an egress site for construction. Once heavy equipment vehicles start coming, they will enter campus through Reservoir and drive through the gated off part by Henle.
See the other question for why we were not able to have the access from the fishbowl to or from the southernmost stairway.
Will the construction pathways become marginally more convenient in the future?
(10/22/14) No, the construction pathways will mostly stay as you seem them, with potential slight modifications, until Fall 2016 when the project has been completed.
When will renovations on Georgetown’s hotel to convert the designated floors into a residence halls begin? And what sort of impact will that construction have on students’ day to day activities?
(10/22/14) The conversion process will begin soon. Because of the small scale of the conversion, the project manager does not anticipate that members of the Georgetown community will be disturbed, including guests of the hotel.
What plans are there to install blue lights or other safety measures in the construction area? Walking alone there at night feels scarier than the rest of campus because there’s only one path to follow.
(10/22/14) The university is moving away from installation of blue lights in favor of mobile technology to report suspicious activity. GUPD encourages you to download LiveSafe in order to call into DPS when in danger and to anonymously report incidents.
Is there a reason there can’t be a bridge from Henle to the main entrance to the Leavey center?
(10/22/14) Soon, heavy construction vehicles will be traveling between the NET site and Reservoir Road. The construction company determined that there would not be enough overhead clearance for a bridge stretching from Henle to the Leavey Center.
Are there any updates on the renovation of Old Jes Res? And is it true that there are plans for it to be a Living Learning Community?
(10/23/14) FJR will serve as a specialized community for upper class students - centered around the Spirit of Georgetown. The Office of Residential Living is working on the official roll-out and will hopefully have more information within the next week or so.
