Chief Justice Joshua Shinbrot (COL ’16)
Josh Shinbrot is currently the Chief Justice presiding over the GUSA Constitutional Council, GUSA’s Judicial Branch. Former GUSA President Nate Tisa appointed Josh to the Constitutional Council in 2013. In May 2014 current GUSA President, Trevor Tezel designated Josh as the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Council. The GUSA Senate unanimously approved his appointment.
During Josh’s tenure on the Constitutional Council, he has presided over various hearings and cases including, most recently, Chess v. GUSA Senate. Josh is a Junior in the College majoring in Government. He will be double minoring in Jewish Civilization and Theology. Like many Georgetown students Josh is fascinated by the Middle East and his research mainly focuses on this region, in particular on the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict. When not in classroom or Lau, Josh enjoys traveling, working out, and chilling at the Georgetown Waterfront. Josh’s favorite book is Aldous Huxley’s Brave New Word, but the GUSA Constitution and By-Laws come in at a close second.
Moving into the future, Josh plans to continue developing the services that the Constitutional Council can offer to Georgetown Students, including potentially partnering with the GUSA Student Advocacy Office. Developing deeper mechanisms for cooperation with the GUSA Election Commission to ensure that free and fair elections are carried out is Josh’s number one priority and he plans to work with his colleagues in the GUSA Senate and Executive to develop these mechanisms.
